Steven H. Strandberg, 71, Millbrook Resident MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- Millbrook resident Steven H. Strandberg died Tuesday, Feb. 2. He was 71. Born in Yonkers, Strandberg served in Vietnam as a special agent for the Army Military Intelligence branch from 1967-70. He began his long career with New York state in 1971 and worked with the state Division of Veterans' Affairs from 1973 until he retired in December 2010. Strandberg loved history, books, ships and music -- especially that of the big band era. Kasena Karmel, 99, Former Longtime Mamaroneck Resident MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Kasena Karmel, former longtime resident of Mamaroneck, died on Saturday, Jan. 30. She was 99.  Karmel received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in English literature from NYU. She then moved into Manhattan and worked at WNYC Radio, and she interned at the United Nations in its early days. She subsequently taught school to underprivileged children in New York and sang in the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera, as well as performing with smaller opera repertory companies.
