Roberto Lira Penafiel, 86, Pawling Resident
PAWLING, N.Y. -- Roberto Lira Penafiel -- a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs and Pawling -- died on Thursday, Feb. 4. He was 86.Born in Santiago, Chile, it was Penafiel's love of the thoroughbred horse that brought him to the United States in 1973. He managed Tilly Foster Farm, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Benedict. He was an avid handicapper, a talented soccer player and loved to watch his family play polo professionally in Santiago.
He is survived by his sister, Maria Angelica Lira Penafiel of Santiago, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Hector J. Caruso, 83, Former Norwood Resident
NORWOOD, N.J. -- Hector J. Caruso, an Ocean County resident and formerly of Norwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 3. He was 83.
Caruso was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his career as a salesman for Hydro-Therm in Northvale, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and owned a delicatessen in Brooklyn.
He also loved jazz and playing the piano.

Helen B. Smith, 94, Park Ridge Resident
PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- Helen B. (Bagley) Smith, of Park Ridge, died Sunday, Feb. 7. She was 94.
Smith was a bookkeeper for Stan Smith Auto Parts for many years. She was a member of the Mahwah Seniors Club.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Smith, Barbara Nolan and Stanley Smith; grandchildren Laura Kursar, Christine Spatola, Tracy Ayala and Jennifer Nolan; and great-grandchildren Marissa, Joseph, Emily and Clara Helen.
Smith was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Smith; two brothers; and four sisters.

Pro Arte Chorale Brings 'Golden Age Of Broadway' To Ridgewood
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- The distinguished Newark Arts High School Chorus will join Pro Arte in "The Golden Age of Broadway" on Sunday, March 13, in Ridgewood
The show will feature songs from "South Pacific," "Porgy and Bess," "Carousel" and "West Side Story." Steven Fox, who's based in New York City, will be directing.
Admission is $25, $20 for seniors and $10 for students. You can buy tickets online here. The show begins at 3 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, 335 N. Van Dien Ave., in Ridgewood.
