3 A.M. 911 Call Leads Rutherford Police To Man On Memorial Field Bleachers With Knife: PD
A 911 call early Sunday, Sept. 1 led police to a man at Bergen County football field with a stolen knife, authorities said.
At about 3:20 a.m., a 911 operator reported a male caller who said he was at a field before hanging up, Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said.
Lt. Craig Capoano traced the call near Memorial Field, dispatched officers, and monitored the field’s surveillance cameras, spotting the man later identified as Brian Smith of Union Beach, according to Russo.

An Ephrata woman is accused of embezzling nearly $6,000 from a local Cub Scouting Pack’s accounts, police announced on Friday, Aug. 29.
Amy Jo Mody, 49, of Ephrata, was charged with one count of felony theft by unlawful taking after an investigation into financial discrepancies in the Cub Scouting Pack’s account, the Ephrata Police Department said.
The probe began in May 2025 when the current Committee Chair reported suspicious activity in the group’s Ephrata National Bank account, according to police.

Three Essex County Sheriff’s officers have been charged with theft after allegedly taking high-end sneakers and a designer belt during a narcotics search in East Orange, authorities said.
The incident happened on Jan. 10, 2023, at the apartment of Kirk Mansook, 470 Park Ave., Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said in a Friday, Aug. 29 announcement.

A 39-year-old Asbury Park man was arrested and charged with breaking into Deal Elementary School, authorities announced Friday, Aug. 29.
On Monday, Aug. 11, officers responded to the elementary school after a man, later identified as Kyle Costello, entered the building through a window the day before and stole an electric scooter from the hallway before he exited the building, Deal police said.
