UPDATE: A worker was seriously injured when an awning that he and others were dismantling in front of an apartment building in Hackensack collapsed on him Friday, authorities confirmed. The 50-something victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what appeared to be a broken arm, among other injuries, after the structure at the Parkview Apartments on Polifly Road gave way shortly before noon Oct. 27, responders said. 28-Year-Old Hit, Killed By Garbage Truck In Fairfield
A person was hit and killed by a garbage truck in Fairfield County. The incident took place in Fairfield around 7:13 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the area of Camfield Drive at Bloomfield Drive. According to Lt. Edward Nook Jr. of the Fairfield Police, the 28-year-old person was struck by a United Carting truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Medical Examiners personnel took the victim from the scene. OSHA also arrived on the scene to investigate. A man was critically injured after a forklift overturned while he was working at a construction site in Jersey City on Monday morning, Sept. 11, authorities said. The incident occurred at 425 Summit Avenue at 8:09 a.m., Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. The man was removed the site and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Wallace-Scalfione said. The victim was employed by L&W Supplies, a spokesman for OSHA said. OSHA said it has six months to conduct an investigation and release its findings.

First responders' attempts to save a man trapped in industrial machinery were futile as the man died on Friday morning, Aug. 25, in Ocean County. OSHA is investigating the fatality at Cambridge Pavingstones, according to Lenore Uddyback-Fortson, regional director of the federal agency. Worker Falls Head-First From Roof Of Franklin Lakes School
A worker was hospitalized Thursday after he fell from the roof of a school in Franklin Lakes and landed on his head, authorities said. The 54-year-old West New York laborer with Safeway Contracting out of Union plunged 10 to 15 feet at the Franklin Avenue Middle School shortly after 2 p.m. July 27, Police Capt. Mark McCombs said. He was alert and conscious while being treated for a large cut on his head before being taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, the captain said.
