A city in Westchester County has a new high point in its skyline.
Yonkers officials marked the opening of Hudson 44, a 27-story residential tower at 44 Hudson St., now the tallest building in the city, Mayor Mike Spano announced Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Rising along the city’s waterfront, the development adds 250 residential units, including 25 designated as affordable housing, according to the mayor. The project represents one of the largest recent residential investments in the city’s ongoing waterfront redevelopment.

Murder Of Woman Found On Hudson River Shore Still Unsolved 25 Years On
A quarter century after Jacqueline “Jackie” McCalop was found dead along the Hudson River shore in Columbia County, her killer has yet to face justice.
McCalop, 43, was last seen alive on Sept. 14, 2000, in the City of Hudson, according to New York State Police. Her body was recovered more than two weeks later, on Sept. 30, along the river’s shoreline.
The case remains unsolved, and investigators have not revealed her cause of death. The City of Hudson Police Department is assisting in the effort.

Drowning Swimmer Saved By Police, Good Samaritan At Park In Haverstraw
A swimmer was rescued from the Hudson River in Rockland County thanks to quick action by police and a Good Samaritan, authorities said.
The incident happened on Friday, Aug. 8, at Emeline Park in Haverstraw, according to the Haverstraw Police Department.
According to the department, officers responded to a report of a drowning in progress and found an unconscious 52-year-old man about 100 feet from shore.

Four teens have been charged and a fourth is being sought after a weekend arson and vandalism spree caused heavy damage to the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse in Westchester County, police said.
The arrests were announced Friday, June 6, by Westchester County Police, who said two suspects—Elvin Ayavaca, 18, of White Plains, and Richard Barrero, 19, of Harrison—were arraigned in Sleepy Hollow Village Court.

Just two weeks before a deadly helicopter crash over the Hudson River, Navy veteran Sean Johnson posted a video of himself flying past the Freedom Tower.
“When it all comes together,” the 36-year-old wrote on Facebook on March 27, alongside the clip showing him piloting a Bell 206.
