A Yonkers woman killed in a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike had come to the U.S. in search of a better life, her sister said.
Vanessa Diaz Pichardo, 37, died after her Hyundai left the road and overturned before slamming into a tractor-trailer in Fort Lee just after 2 a.m. Monday, July 28, New Jersey State Police said.
Her sister, Rosanna Diaz, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help return Vanessaās body to the Dominican Republic so she can be buried with family. As of Tuesday, July 29, the campaign had raised $4,500.

The 9-year-old girl who died after being rescued from Hersheyparkās wave pool last week has been identified as Sophia Subedi, a resident of Harrisburgās Bhutanese community.
Sophia, born in 2016 in Mount Carmel, Columbus, Ohio, had lived in Harrisburg since 2022. She had just completed 3rd grade at North Side Elementary School in the Central Dauphin School District and was preparing to begin 4th grade this fall, according to a statement from the Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg (BCH) released on Monday, July 28.
