19: 'I'm Fed Up,' Says Day, Who Wants Police To Enforce Social Distancing In Rockland
Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he is "fed up" with residents violating the social distancing rule to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Rockland County now has 29 deaths due to the virus. Day is now asking the state government for the help that would authorize the police and other officials to enforce the rules set by Gov. Andrew Cuomo under his Executive Order that limits the size of gatherings, among other rules limiting exposure to others. In a scathing statement, Day said he was done seeing people all across Rockland violate "the common-sense soci…

19: Lakewood Police Crash Another Wedding
Lakewood police cited yet another Jersey Shore wedding host for holding a large gathering during the coronavirus outbreak, authorities said. Officers responding to another call Thursday saw 40 or so people gathered on Wayne Street, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said Friday. They issued a summons to local resident William Katzenstein, 39, for "violating any rule or regulation adopted by the governor," the prosecutor said. Then everyone dispersed, he said. Lakewood police last week broke up 17 over-sized gatherings that violated state coronavirus prevention orders. They didn't …

New Jersey AG: Parties Crashed By Police Show What Violators Of Governor's Order Can Expect
Summonses issued at two large gatherings in Lakewood this week underscore the lengths to which law enforcement will go to protect New Jerseyans from the spread of the coronavirus, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said Wednesday. A Lakewood homeowner on Tuesday continued an outdoor wedding attended by a large group of people in a tent despite police efforts to break things up, Grewal said. It wasn't until they issued a summons to Meir T. Gruskin, 37, for violating Gov. Phil Murphy's executive order banning gatherings that the crowd finally dispersed, the attorney general said. A little ove…

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Saturday ordered non-essential retail businesses closed and directed nearly all residents to stay home, as the number of deaths from the coronavirus rose to 16 -- five of them from last night -- and the number of positive cases jumped to 1327. "New Jerseyans can still take a walk outside, go buy groceries, or get take-out from a local restaurant," Murphy said after signing an executive order. "But, otherwise, STAY AT HOME." "ALL gatherings are cancelled," he added. "Any place where people congregate is a place where coronavirus can spread." Murphy also s…

Mayor In Westchester Blasts Trump Over Child Separation At The Border
In the wake of President Donald Trump’s apparent about-face involving the separation of parents and children at the border, an elected official in Westchester took the Commander-in-Chief to task. In a blog post released on Thursday, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson lambasted Trump, calling the Executive Order signed by the president “a forced response to overwhelming public revulsion and outrage; without external pressure,” adding that “(he has) no doubt that the President and his team would be perfectly content to continue putting young children in cages.” "The separation of families i…

Immigration Crisis A 'Human Tragedy, Threat To Our Values,' Cuomo Says
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the Trump Administration’s "inhumane treatment of immigrant children has left a dark stain on the history of our nation." "It is a human tragedy and a threat to our values," the New Castle Democrat wrote in this op-ed in The New York Times. President Trump signed an executive order on June 20 rolling back his policy of separating parents from their children while claiming to solve a problem that was of his own creation. "But this order is no solution at all," Cuomo wrote. "It still leaves open the long-term detention of immigrant c…
