Though plans to build a new Amazon headquarters in Long Island City fell by the wayside, the online retail giant may still be expanding its foothold in the state and into the Hudson Valley, bringing nearly 1,000 jobs with it. Amazon is set to open a new distribution center in Fairfield County early next year, potentially creating hundreds of jobs for area residents. The state Department of Transportation has officially taken the next step in the ongoing effort to improve safety and mobility along Route 17. The NYSDOT has issued a request for proposals for an engineering company to undergo a scoping and preliminary review process.
