Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon died Friday, July 17, at a hospice facility in Oxnard, California, after a brief bout with cancer, his representative told Variety. He was 89.
Cannon powered some of the late 1950s and early 1960s’ most memorable songs, including “Tallahassee Lassie,” “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans,” and “Palisades Park.”

IDs Released For 2 US Service Members Killed In Iranian Attacks
The names behind one of the US military’s gravest losses in the widening conflict have now been made public.
The Pentagon identified First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, in a casualty notice released Monday, July 20.
Both active-duty soldiers were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led mission against the Islamic State, when they died.
Feehan served with the Second Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
